Continued Hope High School South is a computer-based alternative high school located at 548 W. Southern Avenue in the Kieckhefer Boys & Girls Club.  Our program is specifically designed to help students transition from a juvenile detention center to a conventional high school setting. Through the use of A+ Learning Systems software, our students are able to take and complete many regular high school courses such as: English, Algebra, Physics, and Art Appreciation. Teachers are able to assign classes for skills development based upon student assessment scores.  We accommodate students who come from a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles by providing a safe and constructive learning environment.

Students who typically enroll at Continued Hope High School South have either been released from a juvenile detention center, have previously decided to drop out of school, and have now decided to pursue a high school education. Although the main focus of our program is high-risk students, we are able to accommodate students from many different educational backgrounds due to our flexible Intake system.

New students are provided with all necessary school supplies, as well as being assigned their own laptop while at school. Students are also provided bus passes to help with transportation to school. We use the TABE test as well as an ECAP (Education Career Action Plan) to allow the teachers to better adapt to the educational needs and career aspirations of our students. All students are given the opportunity to use the AzCIS (Arizona Career Information System), website which allows students to gain more knowledge and information about potential careers and higher education requirements. They are provided with a lifetime account to AzCIS and can gain access to the website at any time.

Our flexible computer-based system and curriculum offer several advantages to our students. Unlike traditional high schools that must enroll students at the beginning of a semester, we are able to enroll and accommodate students at any point in time. Once enrolled, students in our program have the ability to learn at their own pace and to easily navigate between classes. Teachers are able to monitor student performance and readily offer feedback. Once students make the transition from our program to a traditional high school, all credits that they have earned will be transferred with them.

In addition to school curriculum, our students learn valuable life skills which will benefit them long after they have left our program. Students learn self-management and time management skills by being accountable for their own attendance and progress on school work. Due to the diversity of personalities and backgrounds, students learn how to be respectful of other people and of ideas other than their own. Classes are designed to enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills by providing study, practice, and test segments for each lesson.

Our focus is to not only assist students in catching up on high school class credits, but to also prepare them for the transition to a traditional high school setting. We strive to prepare them for the challenges that they will face when they graduate. As teachers, our goal is to keep the students recidivism rate to a minimum, and to motivate students to seek their full educational and social potential as young adults.
