Awesomeness Isn't Limitless

Last week I asked you to take a short survey to help me better understand the balance between having autonomy and being burnt out. (Thank you to those that took that survey ❤️)

As I expected, autonomy is important to most of you. And I guess I wasn't surprised that many respondents stated they are low on energy right now. Same.

The root causes of that low energy differ by location and position, but communication seemed to be a common factor in helping people feel better supported across the board.

Communication is always at the top of the list of things leaders should and can do better. And I totally agree. It's a constant struggle. But communication isn't just a leadership issue. Pretty much everyone sucks at it.

And for most of us, it's not because we are trying to keep things from people. It's because we either thought our words were clear, our intentions were clear, our structures/processes were clear, or we didn't realize that we needed to communicate something (because we are freaking exhausted). If you are in any relationship with another person, you may recognize one or more of these issues. 🤓

So here we are. We don't have the energy to communicate, which continues to deplete our energy. Uh-oh.

Here's my promise to you. I will swallow a metaphorical Pac-Man power-up pellet and power-up my comms game. I am also going to work with my team to see how they can as well. I hope this doesn't feel like an empty promise. It is important to me. Very important.

And, if you want to up your comms game and haven't already taken the survey. Here is the link again. And if you can't do one more thing, I get it. It's okay. Save your energy for your kids, colleagues, and or your family and friends. I know your awesomeness isn't limitless, and thank you for sharing what you have with us! ❤️
